DAVIDSON, N.C. (AP) -Chad Barnes rushed for 175 yards and a touchdown, and senior Beaux Jones had six receptions for 89 yards to lead Davidson to a 31-21 win over UNC Pembroke on Saturday.
Kirk Benedict caught three passes for 42 yards and a touchdown, and Myles Potter caught two passes for 26 yards and a score for the Wildcats (1-0).
Davidson opened the scoring on a 15 yard pass from Ryan Alexander to Potter just a few minutes into the game. The Braves (0-1) responded minutes later with a 64-yard TD pass by Matt Evans to Darrin Watkins that cut the lead to 7-6, but Davidson steadily widened the margin.
Evans threw two scoring passes for the Braves in their first varsity game since 1951, when the school was known as Pembroke State College.
