LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – Can a winning diet help win football games?
Of the schools in the preseason Top 25, 13 employ at least one full-time sports registered dietitian. The Collegiate & Professional Sports Dietitians Association did the math, and says there are a total of only 13 full-time sports RDs spread across the other 95 members of the Football Bowl Subdivision.
The group says the diet work pays off.
No. 10 Nebraska will spend more than $1 million this year on specially prepared foods for its student-athletes, $200,000 for supplements and almost $75,000 for the salary of sports nutrition director Josh Hingst.
CPSDA president Dave Ellis said cost-conscious athletic directors have been slow to buy in to sports nutrition.
