GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) – The Idaho-Florida game will start around 9:50 p.m. Eastern time after a nearly three-hour weather delay.
The season opener for both teams was scheduled to start at 7:02 p.m., but lightning strikes within an 8-mile radius of Florida Field delayed it repeatedly.
The first one happened at 6:28 p.m., prompting officials to send players to the locker room. Strikes continued around Gainesville for about two-and-a-half hours.
Players were summoned back to the field at 9:30 p.m., for a brief warmup before kickoff.
Coming of its worst season since 1979, Florida is hoping to end a seven-game losing against the seemingly overmatched Vandals. Idaho has four victories over the last three years, including consecutive one-win seasons, and had one of the worst defenses in the country in 2013.
