BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – LSU coach Les Miles says his players understand they must move beyond the recent arrests and suspensions and focus on No. 3 Oregon as Saturday night’s season opener approaches.
Miles says the team feels a “heartfelt sense of loss” over last week’s arrests of projected starting quarterback Jordan Jefferson and reserve linebacker Josh Johns, which stemmed from an Aug. 19 fight outside a bar.
The fourth-ranked Tigers also will miss starting receiver Russell Shepard, who was suspended last week for violating NCAA rules, but Miles says promising freshman Odell Beckham will have more opportunities.
New starting quarterback Jarrett Lee says the Tigers are a strong, close group who understand the “best medicine” for the team’s recent bout of misfortune is to spend the week preparing hard for Oregon.
