OXFORD, Miss. (AP) -David Kellum has never really seen anything like the excitement surrounding Jerrell Powe in his 20 years as the Mississippi radio play-by-play man.
Powe is a defensive lineman, after all, and those guys aren’t often the focus of fan adoration. But at Ole Miss, Powe is a lot like a pop star. Not bad for a guy who had eight tackles last season.
The long-suffering Powe hopes to give supporters something to cheer for this season as he debuts a new ready-for-primetime body that should allow him to cash in on the promise that made him one of the nation’s most sought-after recruits five years ago.
As he prepares for his junior year, the buzz surrounding Powe is almost as loud as the clamor around the No. 8 Rebels.
