BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) -Coach Jeff Tedford announced that Kevin Riley will be his starting quarterback when No. 12 California opens the season against Maryland on Sept. 5.
Tedford made the announcement after practice Monday. Riley had been competing with Beau Sweeney and Brock Mansion since the start of fall camp. Tedford says Riley’s experience, accuracy and consistency were the deciding factor.
Riley started nine games for the Golden Bears a year ago and has made 10 starts in his career at Cal. He has completed 53.4 percent of his passes with 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
