PITTSBURGH (AP) – Sophomore Chad Voytik is moving closer to grabbing the starting quarterback job at Pitt.
Voytik took the majority of the snaps with the first team during a scrimmage over the weekend, drawing praise from coach Paul Chryst.
Voytik, a sophomore, and junior Trey Anderson are both competing to be the starter when the Panthers open the season against Delaware on Aug. 30. Though Chryst has yet to name a winner, Voytik has been impressive all month.
Wide receiver Tyler Boyd says the Panthers have all their trust in Voytik, who came off the bench to help lead the team to a win over Bowling Green in the Little Caesar’s Pizza Bowl last December.
