STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) – Joe Paterno says he’s in a little pain after getting blindsided in practice, though he expects to coach from the sideline for Penn State’s season opener.
The Hall of Fame coach spoke from a golf cart before practice Tuesday, a week after being released from the hospital following the accidental hit in last week’s practice from receiver Devon Smith. Paterno hurt his right shoulder and pelvis, though the 84-year-old coach said Tuesday he did not suffer any fractures.
Entering his 46th season, Paterno is major college football’s winningest coach with 401 victories. His right arm is out of a sling, though he is limited to monitoring practice from a golf cart for now.
JoePa says he expects to be back at 100 percent sometime next week. Penn State opens vs. Indiana State on Sept. 3.
