DALLAS (AP) – Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops says he and his team are still recovering from the offseason death of linebacker Austin Box.
Stoops says when the team gets together next week for the start of fall practice that they will address how to keep moving forward without forgetting Box, who would have been a senior this season.
The Oklahoma medical examiner’s office two weeks ago ruled that Box’s death on May 19 accidental. A preliminary toxicology report showed Box had five prescription painkillers and an anti-anxiety drug in his system when he died.
During his session at the Big 12 media days Tuesday, Stoops said Box was a great spirit in the locker room and a friend everybody loved to see. He says there are no words to describe the hurt.
