STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) – The giddy rookies started snapping pictures the moment they stepped onto the pristine stadium turf.
Then the group – including a Paterno – got an earful from Penn State assistant coach Mike McQueary. And, he didn’t hold back.
No, it wasn’t that Paterno.
Kelley Paterno, daughter-in-law to the Nittany Lions’ Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno was the wide-eyed rookie Friday, joining 49 others taking part in Penn State’s first women-only football clinic.
Some schools, including Clemson and Mississippi, offer similar clinics to give women a taste of the male-dominated sport.
Penn State organizers think they offer the most hands-on experience yet, including hours-long classroom sessions and a flag football game at Beaver Stadium.
