NEW ORLEANS (AP) – The executive director of the Bowl Championship Series says officials are pleased with the Fiesta Bowl’s approach to reform on the heels of a scandal involving the bowl’s lavish spending practices and political dealings.
Bill Hancock says that while the BCS believes it can replace the Fiesta Bowl, the organization that oversees college football’s five biggest postseason games is “miles away” from that point.
The BCS is having annual meetings in New Orleans this week, and Fiesta Bowl officials including chairman Duane Woods are on hand to speak with conference commissioners and NCAA bowl licensing officials.
Hancock says Fiesta Bowl officials have been forthright and are “dead serious” about reform.
