SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -Brian Kelly got to show off his new spread offense during Notre Dame’s annual Blue-Gold game.
With the defenses keeping everything simple, the offense dominated as expected in the Saturday game. Joe Montana’s son, Nate, threw for 223 yards and three touchdowns and expected starter Dayne Crist passed for 172 yards and two TDs.
Montana, a walk-on, led the Gold team to a 27-19 victory, throwing a 4-yard TD pass to tight end Mike Ragone, a 37-yard score to Duval Kamara and 14-yard TD pass to Theo Riddick. Jonas Gray added a 38-yard TD run.
Cierre Wood rushed for 110 yards for the Blue team, including a 44-yard TD run.
Kelly called the game a good start, but says there’s still a lot of work to do.
