BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) – Former FBI director Louis Freeh (LOO’-ee free) wants a judge from outside the State College area to handle the defamation lawsuit former Penn State president Graham Spanier filed against him and his law firm.
Freeh’s lawyers filed a motion Friday seeking an out-of-county judge in the litigation that accuses Freeh of scapegoating Spanier in a 2012 report commissioned by the university into how its officials handled the Jerry Sandusky child sex-abuse scandal.
Freeh’s filings suggest a good candidate for the job would be Dauphin County Judge Todd Hoover.
Hoover is presiding over the criminal case in Harrisburg against Spanier and his former top aides Gary Schultz and Tim Curley.
The filings say Hoover would be well-positioned to coordinate the two matters, and outside judges have been used in related cases.
