PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon State Board of Higher Education is looking at the $2.3 million that the university of Oregon is paying departing athletic director Mike Bellotti.
Bellotti, the Ducks’ former football coach, announced on March 19 that he was leaving the office he’d held for less than a year to take a job as a college football analyst with ESPN.
Bellotti, who had no written contract as AD, will be paid $2.3 million as part of a so-called separation agreement.
At a regular meeting Thursday morning, the higher education board requested that its internal audit division look into the matter to assure that all laws, rules and board policies have been met. The review should take about three weeks.
The state Department of Justice is also reviewing the agreement. Oregon is a public university.
