BABSON PARK, Fla. (AP) – Soslan Gagloev knows what it means to be at the pinnacle of a country’s most-popular sport.
The Russian-born former sumo wrestler was one of Japan’s top draws before a marijuana bust and match-fixing scandal ended his career three years ago.
Now he is in Florida at NAIA Webber International University, chasing a dream to play college football. He knows it is a long shot, but believes his sumo skills and personal drive get him a chance to chase his new dream.
He wants to follow in the footsteps of former Warriors player Vince Anderson, who became Webber’s first NFL player when he suited up for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season.
