ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Michigan has hired former Wolverines linebacker Roy Manning as an assistant coach.
Wolverines coach Brady Hoke made the announcement Monday. Manning will coach outside linebackers.
Defensive coordinator Greg Mattison adds the title of defensive line coach.
Manning played in 37 games at Michigan from 2001-04. The former Saginaw High School star was in 21 NFL games over the next three years with Green Bay, Houston and Cincinnati. Hoke had Manning as a graduate assistant in 2011 in his first year leading the Wolverines. Manning leaves Northern Illinois, where he was hired in January, after coaching running backs at Cincinnati last season.
Manning fills a spot on Hoke's staff vacated by defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery, who left last month for the same job at Oklahoma.
