SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) – Oregon running back LaMichael James jokes that the reason Chip Kelly has closed practices is that the coach with the no-nonsense exterior doesn’t want the world to see what he’s really like.
Kelly has been running a tight ship in Arizona as the second-ranked Ducks prepare for the BCS title game Monday against No. 1 Auburn. Access to players is tightly controlled and the team has been rigidly scheduled.
Kelly has always been regimented about his team, but there has been some grousing about what has been seen as over-the-top security surrounding the Ducks.
To his credit, the coach says it’s all about the team: Oregon is currently in school, so the players are having to keep up with their class work.
