Public Betting Trends

Texas Longhorns
Texas sophomore QB Sam Ehlinger (shoulder) threw the ball in practice on Tuesday. Per Brian Davis of The Austin American-Statesman, Ehlinger is “progressing well” in his recovery from the sprained AC joint he sustained in his shoulder against Iowa State on Saturday (a re-aggravation of an earlier injury, that one). His status for this weekend’s game against Kansas on Friday has not yet been determined. Should Ehlinger be unable to play in that one, Shane Buechele would take the start in his place.
Kansas Jayhawks
Kansas has hired Les Miles as head coach. Kansas University athletic director Jeff Long took to Twitter to make the announcement, listing Miles’ experience as a head coach and strong recruiting reputation as reasons why the Jayhawks went in his direction. While Les Miles does bring a big name to the Kansas football program, there are concerns about his ability to adjust to the Big 12, especially with much weaker recruits than he was used to at LSU. Miles has reportedly agreed to a five-year contract worth $2,275,000 annually, with additional retention bonuses due in 2020 and 2022. Miles said, “We will bring Jayhawk football back.” Let’s see who he can bring on to his coaching staff.
Betting Trends
Texas
The over is 6-1 in the Longhorns’ last seven games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.
Kansas
The under is 6-2 in the Jayhawks’ last eight games after allowing more than 40 points in their previous game.
Prediction
The over is 4-1 in the Longhorns’ last five road games and it’s reasonable to expect that Texas knocks on the door of 40 points in this game. Can we get 17 out of the Jayhawks? Considering Pooka Williams just rushed for 252 yards and two touchdowns last week, I would say the answer is yes. Granted, Texas is not Oklahoma and Williams and Co. won’t find it as easy to score versus the Longhorns but again, Texas should lift most of the weight on Friday.
