Eastern win on the road
Eastern Michigan is coming off a 42-14 win at Akron a week ago that snapped a two-game losing streak for the Eagles. EMU comes into this game at 5-5 overall, 2-4 in the MAC, 4-6 against the spread and 6-2-2 with the over.
The Eagles have struggled on defense this year, allowing 31.3 points and 435.2 yards per game. Offensively, EMU is putting up 27.8 points and 389.6 yards per contest. Mike Glass III is leading Eastern this season with 2,237 passing yards and 16 touchdowns. He also has rushed for 277 yards and six touchdowns. Shaq Vann is the team’s leading rusher with 493 yards and six touchdowns while Mathew Sexton is the leading receiver with 33 catches for 501 yards and four scores.
NIU bounces back
Following a 48-10 beatdown at the hands of Central Michigan on Nov. 2, Northern Illinois was able to bounce back last week with a 31-28 win at Toledo. The win moved the Huskies to 4-6 on the season, 3-3 in the MAC, 6-4 against the spread and 6-4 with the over.
NIU has been known for defense over the years, but it’s just average this season. The Huskies are giving up 27.9 points and 388.4 yards per game. Offensively, NIU is putting up just 24 points and 372 yards per contest. Ross Bowers has thrown for 2,130 yards and seven touchdowns this year, but also has eight interceptions. Tre Harbison is the team’s leading rusher with 909 yards and eight touchdowns while Cole Tucker is the leading receiver with 37 catches for 520 yards and a score.
College Football Betting Trends
Eastern Michigan
The Eagles are 20-7 against the spread in their last 27 road games, but 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a losing team.
Northern Illinois
The Huskies are 1-4 against the spread in their last five games following a win and 0-4 ATS in their last four games following a cover.
Prediction:
Northern Illinois has been able to dominate this series in terms of wins, taking the last 11 meetings. Amazingly, these two have went to overtime in their last three encounters. Outside of a 49-0 win over Akron, NIU hasn’t been able to pull away from opponents. Their other two MAC wins are by just three points. EMU has been largely competitive as well, losing by just three in OT at Toledo and by six to Ball State. I think this game remains close like previous meetings, as neither offense looks capable of really blowing this game open. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this game come down to the final possession, or go to overtime once again. For that reason, I will take the underdog with the points.
