Iowa vs. Michigan Odds
After losing its first game of the season, Michigan and Rich Rodriguez need a big win on Saturday at 3:30PM ET when the Wolverines host No. 15 Iowa.
Iowa is 4-1 this season and 1-0 in the Big Ten while Michigan is 5-1 and 1-1 in conference play. Michigan is 24-7-1 all-time against Michigan but the Wolverines have failed to rush for over 100 yards in five of the last seven meetings.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook BroburySports.com have made Iowa a 3-point favorite on the road against Michigan. The over/under has been set at 53.5.
The opening odds for this game had Iowa favored by 3.5 points. The spread has been as high as 4 but has now settled in at 3. The over/under has returned to its opening spot of 53.5 but was up to 54 at one point.
Iowa’s lone loss this season came in their only other road game, at Arizona. The Hawkeyes have one of the top defenses in the country, holding opponents to 10.2 points and 242.2 yards per game, including just 63.2 rushing yards per contest. The offense has been solid as they average 426.4 yards per game. Ricky Stanzi has thrown for 1,226 yards and 10 touchdowns with just two interceptions while Adam Robinson has rushed for 480 yards and six touchdowns.
Michigan is coming off its first loss of the season to Michigan State last weekend. The Wolverines have one of the most explosive offenses in the nation, averaging 533.7 yards per game but Michigan also has a weak defense, which allows an average of 26.8 points and 450.7 yards per-game. Denard Robinson has rushed for 991 yards and nine touchdowns while throwing for 1,223 yards and eight touchdowns. Robinson did have three interceptions in the loss to the Spartans last weekend.
The trends favor Iowa in this game as the Hawkeyes are 4-0 against the spread in their last four as a road favorite and 12-2 ATS in their last 14 road games. Michigan is just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 overall and 4-17 ATS in their last 21 conference games.
Iowa is lacking depth at running back as Paki O’Meara is questionable for the game with a concussion while Jewel Hampton is already out for the season with a knee injury and Brandon Wegher is out indefinitely for personal reasons. Michigan may be without running back Fitzgerald Toussaint, who has a shoulder injury while safety Michael Williams is questionable with a concussion.
