Aggies win third straight
Utah State has won three straight games since a loss at Michigan State to open the season. Their last loss was a 42-32 win over Air Force two weeks ago. The Aggies are 4-0 against the spread while hitting the over in all four games.
Utah State has had a very strong offense this year, putting up 51.5 points and 475 yards per game. They are being led by quarterback Jordan Love, who has thrown for 1,070 yards and five touchdowns with three interceptions. Gerold Bright and Darwin Thompson have combined for 553 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. Defensively, Utah State is giving up 23.8 points and 357.5 yards per game. Their run defense is allowing 187.3 yards per game.
BYU falls at Washington
BYU is coming off a surprising 35-7 loss at Washington last week to fall to 3-2 on the season. Both losses have come against Pac-12 opponents. BYU is 3-2 against the spread as well while hitting the under in all five games.
The Cougars are stronger on defense than on offense. They are giving up just 20.6 points and 355.4 yards per game. Offensively, BYU is putting up 21.4 points and 295 yards per game. Running back Squally Canada has run for 335 yards and five touchdowns this year, but he has an unspecified injury that has him questionable for this game. Quarterback Tanner Mangum has thrown for 773 yards and three touchdowns, but also has two interceptions.
College Football Betting Trends
Utah State
Utah State has hit the over in seven of its last eight non-conference games and in six of its last seven road games.
BYU
BYU has hit the under in six of its last seven games in October and in eight of its last 10 home games.
Prediction:
Something has to give in this game. Utah State is an offensive power while BYU is a defensive power. These two have trended with the over, hitting it in three of their last four meetings. Given that Washington was able to score on BYU, I think the Aggies will have some success on offense as well. The Cougars should be able to exploit the Utah State defense, which has struggled to stop the run. If Canada is unable to go, that could certainly be an issue, but I think BYU has the ability to run without him.
College Football Prediction: Utah State/BYU Over 55.5
