Texas vs. Oklahoma Pick
The Red River Rivalry should be another classic between Oklahoma and Texas in Week 5 but can the teams combine to score at least 45 points?
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook BroburySports.com have made Oklahoma 3.5-point favorites in the matchup with Texas. The over/under has been set at 44.5 points. Here is a breakdown of what to pick for this contest.
The game itself is tough to call, but I personally have a pick in mind for the point total. Both teams have had clear flaws this season, but in this game it will be strength vs. strength and weakness vs. weakness. The solid Oklahoma offense meets the stout Texas defense while the struggling Sooner defense faces off with the poor Texas offense.
My pick is the under as I think Texas will keep the Oklahoma offense from moving the ball consistently while the Oklahoma defense should look better against a Texas offense that is still adjusting to a new style.
Even in giving up 34 points to UCLA, Texas is still allowing under 230 yards of offense per game. Don’t pick Landry Jones to have a big game as the Texas secondary will be flying all over the place. Also, Texas may improve on their offensive numbers against a weak Oklahoma defense, but it is hard for Texas to get much worse.
In the end, 44.5 points isn’t much, but I see this game similar to last year, where the final score was 16-13 in favor of the Longhorns. Again, my pick for a play on Saturday is the under.
