Charlotte hitting overs
Charlotte has looked competitive early in the season against some lesser competition. The 49ers are off to a 2-1 start overall with a 2-1 mark against the spread. They have managed to hit the over in all three games.
Thus far in 2019, Charlotte is putting up 47.3 points and 522.3 yards per game on offense while giving up 33.7 points and 313 yards per game on defense. Benny LeMay has been leading the offense with 351 rushing yards and four touchdowns while Chris Reynolds has thrown for 587 yards and seven touchdowns. Micaleous Elder is the team’s leading receiver with 201 yards on 11 catches. Alex Highsmith is leading the defense with 16 tackles and four sacks.
Clemson not as dominant as expected
Clemson is off to a 3-0 start and the defense has played very well, including in a 41-6 win over Syracuse last week. The Tigers are 2-1 against the spread, but are 2-1 with the under as the offense hasn’t been quite as crisp as people anticipated.
The Tigers are putting up 39 points and 544.3 yards per game on offense this year while the defense is giving up only 10 points and 256.7 yards per contest. Travis Etienne is leading the offense with 334 rushing yards and three touchdowns, but he is dealing with a neck injury that has him questionable to play on Saturday. Trevor Lawrence has thrown for 831 yards and five touchdowns, but he also has five interceptions. Tee Higgins is the leading receiver with 15 catches for 318 yards. Isaiah Simmons is leading the defense with 27 tackles and two sacks.
College Football Betting Trends
Charlotte
The 49ers are 4-0 with the under in their last four games on grass and 5-1 with the over in their last six non-conference games.
Clemson
Clemson is 4-1 with the under in their last five games in September and 13-4-1 with the under in their last 18 home games.
Prediction:
Clemson could probably have its way with Charlotte if it wanted to, but the offense just hasn’t looked 100 percent. Lawrence has been turnover-prone, which was something he didn’t do much of all last season. I would expect the Clemson defense to look dominant, as the Tigers should easily shutdown the Charlotte offense. I just don’t think the Tigers will put up enough points to carry this total.
