Malik Zaire Heisman Odds
SOUTH BEND, IN (TheSpread) – Malik Zaire will take his crack at being the starting quarterback for the Notre Dame football team in the 2015 season. Can he make a run at the Heisman in his first year as a full-time starter?
According to oddsmakers at GTBets, Zaire is listed with 40/1 odds to win the 2015 Heisman Trophy. Trevone Boykin of TCU is the current favorite with 6/1 odds while Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott has 7/1 odds. Braxton Miller, Jeremy Johnson and Nick Chubb each have 10/1 odds.
Zaire saw limited action last season, throwing for 266 yards and one touchdown while rushing for 187 yards and two scores. He saw most of his time under center in Notre Dame’s last two games of the season. He went 12 of 15 passing for 96 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 96 yards and a score in the 31-28 win over LSU in the Music City Bowl.
Zaire certainly has some mobility, which can be a big strength for him and something that Brian Kelly has utilized in the past at Central Michigan at Cincinnati with his quarterbacks. With Notre Dame being such a prominent program, if Zaire is able to lead the Irish to success, it won’t be far-fetched for him to pick up some Heisman buzz. The Irish have a challenging schedule, but not as difficult as it has been in previous years. Look out for Zaire as a dark horse in the Heisman race.
