South Carolina Season Odds
COLUMBIA, SC (TheSpread) – The South Carolina Gamecocks are coming off one of their worst seasons in the Steve Spurrier era last year. Will South Carolina bounce back in the 2015 season?
According to oddsmakers at GTBets, South Carolina has been given 100/1 odds to win the national title this upcoming season. The Gamecocks are listed with odds of +2800 to win the SEC Championship and their over/under total for wins in 2015 has been set at 7.
South Carolina is coming off a 7-6 record in 2014 with a 3-5 mark in SEC play, which was the Gamecocks’ worst season under Spurrier since they went 6-6 in 2007. Spurrier is entering his 11th season with South Carolina. He has an 84-45 record with the Gamecocks overall and a 44-36 SEC record.
What was interesting about South Carolina last season is their defense was a mess, which was uncommon for Spurrier’s team. They allowed 30.4 points per game, which put them 91st nationally. On offense, Carolina averaged 32.6 points and 442.6 yards per game, including 281.6 yards per game through the air, which ranked 22nd nationally. The team loses starting quarterback Dylan Thompson, who threw for 3,564 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2014. Also gone is leading rusher Mike Davis, who rushed for just under 1,000 yards. They key to the offense will be receiver Pharoh Cooper, who enters his junior year after catching 69 passes for 1,136 yards and nine touchdowns as a sophomore.
South Carolina doesn’t do itself many favors in non-conference play, as the Gamecocks will face North Carolina, Central Florida, The Citadel and Clemson. However, all four games are at home. SEC play features home games with Kentucky, LSU, Vanderbilt and Florida. The Gamecocks have road trips to Georgia, Missouri, Texas A&M and Tennessee. South Carolina has a lot of questions to answer on offense, but you have to assume the defense will be better this year and this team will find a way to compete in the SEC.
