According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Oklahoma is 17/10 to make the four-team college football playoff in 2014-15 and 2/5 to miss the postseason altogether. The Sooners are also 12/1 to win the 2014-15 college football FBS championship, which gives them the sixth-best odds among teams listed. Florida State remains favored to repeat as champions at 5/1.
Quarterback Trevor Knight is also 20/1 to win the Heisman Trophy after completing 79-of-134 passes for 819 yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions. He turned heads in a 45-31 victory in the 2014 Sugar Bowl against Alabama when he completed 32-of-44 passes for 348 yards with four touchdowns and one interception.
The defense is lead by linebacker Eric Striker, who abused Alabama offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandjio in the Sugar Bowl with his speed off the edge.He finished with 10.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks in 2013 but he’s capable of even bigger things in 2014.
Oklahoma should have the best defense in the Big 12 and if Knight can play with consistency, then the Sooners have just as good as shot as any team in the conference to make the four-team playoff. Another thing that could be in OU’s favor is the fact that Baylor’s non-conference schedule is a joke. If the selection committee is true to its word when it says that strength of schedule will heavily weigh into which teams make the postseason, then the Bears could be in trouble.
