Despite being the dreaded 12 versus 5 matchup, will Notre Dame beat and cover against Princeton in today’s NCAA tournament opener at 12:15PM ET?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Fighting Irish are 6.5-point favorites versus the Tigers while the over/under currently sits at 134 points. The point spread hasn’t moved as of this writing, but the total has climbed a half-point from 133.5 up to 134.

Princeton finished the regular season on a 19-0 run to win the Ivy League. The Tigers were 23-6 in the regular season and 12-10-1 against the spread on the year. Devin Cannady led the team in points per game at 13.7, while Spencer Weisz had a team-high in both assists per game at 4.2 and rebounds per contest at 5.4.
Notre Dame’s season finished with a resounding thud in the ACC Tournament Championship Game against Duke. Trailing by only two points in the closing minute of a game in which they were a 4.5-point underdog, the Fighting Irish collapsed as the Blue Devils won 75-69 to burn Notre Dame bettors. The Irish were 8-2 over their last 10 games, however, and 7-3 against the spread.

OUR PREDICTION: Princeton has not fared well at the betting window in non-conference games, nor as an underdog. The Tigers are just 3-9 against the spread in their last 12 non-conference matchups and are 3-12-1 against the spread in their last 16 games as an underdog of between 0.5 and 6.5 points. As for the Fighting Irish, they’re 4-1 against the spread in their last five games overall and are 11-5-1 against the number in their last 17 games as a favorite.
