Duke dismisses Sulaimon
DURHAM, NC (TheSpread) – The Duke Blue Devils made a surprising move on Thursday, dismissing junior guard Rasheed Sulaimon from the team.
This was Sulaimon’s first public discipline from the team, which makes the move even more surprising. He is the first player to be dismissed from Duke’s basketball program since Mike Krzyzewski has been the head coach. The junior was averaging 7.5 points per game this season.
“Rasheed has been unable to consistently live up to the standards required to be a member of our program,” Krzyzewski said in a release. “It is a privilege to represent Duke University and with that privilege comes the responsibility to conduct oneself in a certain manner. After Rasheed repeatedly struggled to meet the necessary obligations, it became apparent that it was time to dismiss him from the program.”
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Duke currently has 10/1 odds to win the 2015 Final Four, joining Arizona. Kentucky is the current favorite with 1/1 odds while Virginia has 15/2 odds.
Duke is currently 17-3 on the season and 4-3 in the ACC. The Blue Devils are coming off a 77-73 loss at Notre Dame on Wednesday night and will now be heading to unbeaten Virginia on Saturday night. The Blue Devils are currently three games behind the Cavaliers in the ACC standings.
