SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) – Syracuse snapped a rare two-game slide in the nonconference portion of the schedule with its 71-69 win over Louisiana Tech last Sunday evening, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
The Orange (6-3) visit No. 7 Villanova (10-0) on Saturday.
Senior center Rakeem Christmas scored the winning basket in the closing seconds against the Bulldogs and redshirt junior guard Trevor Cooney scored a season-high 25 points in the 71-69 victory.
The Orange also got a big day from sophomore Tyler Roberson with 14 points and 17 rebounds in 33 minutes, all career highs. That’s important with swingman Michael Gbinije nursing a back issue.
