 AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -A.J. Abrams scored 27 points and Dexter Pittman added 19 to lead No. 5 Texas to an 88-72 victory over Texas Southern on Tuesday night.
Abrams had 16 points in the second half and Pittman added 15 for the Longhorns (9-1), who led 35-34 at halftime.
The Tigers (0-9) opened the second half with a fullcourt press, and Pittman capitalized as the center scored 11 points in a 10-minute span.
Matthew Miller led Texas Southern with 21 points, 10 over his season average.
Freshman Varez Ward had 12 points, seven assists and five rebounds for Texas.
No. 16 Tennessee 80, No. 24 Marquette 68
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Wayne Chism scored 21 of his 26 points in the second half for Tennessee in the second game of the Southeastern Conference/Big East Invitational.
Tyler Smith had 14 points and Bobby Maze added 10 for the Volunteers (7-2), who came in as the SEC's only ranked team and off a big loss at Temple over the weekend.
Wesley Matthews had 30 points for Marquette (8-2), which had a three-game winning streak snapped.

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - Trevor Booker had 16 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots and Clemson moved to 11-0 for the third time in four seasons.
The Tigers are 43-0 under coach Oliver Purnell over the past four seasons in games played before Dec. 22.
It was the fewest points scored against Clemson since a 77-28 win over Wofford on Feb. 6, 1996.
Clemson (11-0) closed the first half on a 20-5 run to take a 37-22 lead.
Booker was 6-of-9 from the field and 3-of-3 from the free throw line.
Kyle Groothuis had nine points and seven rebounds for the Ospreys (0-8), who shot 16 percent (4-of-25) in the second half.
