FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) – Arkansas faces its toughest challenge yet when it travels to face defending national champion Connecticut as part of the SEC-Big East Challenge.
The short-handed Razorbacks (5-1) have only nine scholarship players following a season-ending knee injury to leading scorer Marshawn Powell. However, they’ve won three straight since a loss to Houston.
Guard BJ Young leads a group of four freshmen who have contributed greatly to Arkansas’ early success, averaging 13.3 points per game in 22 minutes off the bench.
The Razorbacks have yet to play a game outside their home state, and coach Mike Anderson says Saturday’s game against the No. 8 Huskies (6-1) will provide a good gauge of how ready Arkansas is for SEC play.
