ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Jermaine Griffin and Rog'er Guignard scored 16 points apiece as Texas-Arlington beat Schreiner 99-66 on Monday night. With the win, UTA starts the season 5-0 for the first time in program history. Also scoring in double-digits for UTA were Larry Posey with 14 and Anthony Vereen and Brandon Long with 13 each. UTA built a double-digit lead in first five minutes. A Posey layup after a steal made it 35-24 with 7:56 left in the first half. The lead swelled to 20 - 48-28 - after a Griffin layup with 2:46 left. By halftime, UTA led 57-36. UTA scored the first eight points of the second half to lead 65-36 after a Griffin layup two minutes into the half. UTA held Schreiner (0-3) to seven points in the first 12 minutes of the half and led 87-43 after two Vereen free throws with 8:35 to play. Keith Perry led Schreiner with 19 points. Cory Tellis added 12 and Justin Land had 11. |
