CHENEY, Wash. (AP) - Venky Jois put up 22 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Eastern Washington to a season opening win against Pacific (Ore.) Sunday.
Jois, last year's Big Sky Freshman of the Year, went 10 of 13 from the field and also added five assists. Junior transfer Drew Brandon opened his Eagles career with a well-rounded game, scoring 14 points to go along with six assists, six rebounds and five steals.
All five Eastern Washington starters finished in double figures.
The Eagles opened up a 27-13 first-half lead on the back of a 14-5 run, and Pacific, a Division III program, couldn't get the lead under eight for the rest of the game.
Forward Mitch Wettig led the Boxers with 18 points on 7 of 9 shooting, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range. Daniel Zitani added 16.
