NORMAL, Ill. (AP) -Anthony Slack scored 12 points and Dom Johnson added 11 to lead Illinois State over Missouri-St. Louis 70-37 in the first regular-season game for the Redbirds. Dinma Odiakosa also contributed 9 points, and Osiris Eldridge had 8 for the Redbirds (1-0). Brown Larricus tallied a game-high 16 points for the Tritons (0-3), who managed a total of just 14 points in the first half. Illinois State went into the half leading 23-14. For the game, Missouri-St. Louis was 0-for-4 from beyond the 3-point line; Illinois State was 7-for-18, which help the Redbirds build on their 23-14 halftime lead. Sloppy play doomed Missouri-St. Louis. Illinois State scored 40 points off turnovers, compared to just 8 points that the Tritons converted off turnovers. Illinois State's bench outscored the Triton bench 27-6. |
