 CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) - Eric Coleman scored 21 points to lead the University of Northern Iowa to a 75-68 victory over Massachusetts in the championship of the BTI Tip Off Tournament.
The Panthers owned a 41-22 lead four minutes into the second half and held on with freethrows down the stretch.
Northern Iowa (3-0) made just one field goal the final six minutes of the game, but made 13 of 16 shots from the line.
Guard Gary Forbes led the comeback for UMass (2-1), scoring 21 of his game-high 29 points in the second half.
The Minutemen cut the deficit to three points on four separate occasions in the final two minutes.
Coleman led Northern Iowa with 13 rebounds and was named most valuable player of the three-day tournament.
