PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Maalik Wayns scored 23 points and Corey Stokes added 20 as No. 6 Villanova cruised to a 95-58 victory over District of Columbia in an exhibition game Tuesday night.
Corey Fisher scored 17 points and Antonio Pena had 11 rebounds for the Wildcats, who were never challenged and shot 57 percent from the field. Wayns was an impressive 10-for-12 from the field and had five rebounds and four assists.
Tim Ellison led Division II District of Columbia with 25 points.
The District of Columbia is led by former Iona coach Jeff Ruland. It was a bit of a homecoming for Ruland, who played for the Philadelphia 76ers and was a former assistant coach with them.
The Wildcats open the season Nov. 12 against Bucknell.
