SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -Ryan Ayres led all scorers with 21 points and Big East Preseason Player of the Year Luke Harangody had 16 points and 11 rebounds as ninth-ranked Notre Dame defeated NAIA opponent Briar Cliff 103-64, in an exhibition game Friday night.
Five Notre Dame players scored in double figures, with Tory Jackson adding 18, Luke Zeller scoring 12, and Kyle McAlarney scoring 11.
The Chargers were led by Derek Mechaelsen's 14 points.
The Chargers stayed with the Irish for much of the first half, helped by eight points by Chase Vander Feen in the first 10 minutes. Briar Cliff led 19-18 midway through the first half before a rebound bucket by Carleton Scott started a 9-0 Irish run to make the score 27-19 with 8:10 to go in the first half.
:24 remaining in the half. Notre Dame then ran off the last eight points of the half for a 46-34 lead at the intermission.
Notre Dame steadily pulled away in the second half.
