LOS ANGELES (AP) – UCLA is rebuilding, only this season it’s the team’s home arena that’s under renovation. As for the Bruins, they’re loaded with enough frontline talent that should put them in the hunt for the first-ever Pac-12 championship.
After a couple of lean years following three consecutive trips to the Final Four, the Bruins regrouped last season with a 23-11 record, a second-place finish in the conference and a return to the NCAA tournament after missing out in 2010.
This season’s Bruins are a big bunch – 11 of their scholarship players are 6-foot-8 or taller – and they’re eager to do some damage in the low post.
Forward Reeves Nelson, the league’s top rebounder and fourth-leading scorer last season, spent the summer working on his shooting and ball handling.
