LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Texas Tech men's basketball coach Billy Gillispie has resigned, due to health reasons. The school announced the move on Thursday. Gillispie's departure comes less than a month after Texas Tech said it was looking into allegations of player mistreatment by the veteran coach and that it had reported practice-time violations to the NCAA. Athletic director Kirby Hocutt had already told Gillispie he could no longer handle day-to-day decisions about the program so he could focus on his health. Hocutt put associate head coach Chris Walker in charge. Gillispie spent six days in a Lubbock hospital, and doctors later ordered him to avoid stress for 30 days. He coached one year at Texas Tech, finishing the 2011-12 season with an 8-23 record and one Big 12 victory. |
