CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) Miami freshman forward Dewan Huell is facing a misdemeanor battery charge after police say he attacked someone who was in his ex-girlfriend’s dorm room.
The 19-year-old Huell was arrested Tuesday by police at Florida International University, where the ex-girlfriend is a student. Court records show Huell was released on $1,500 bond.
Huell was a McDonald’s All-American last season at Miami Norland High, and was one of the top-rated recruits in the country. He averaged 16.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game as a senior.
Miami officials say they are still gathering information about the incident. It was unknown if Huell has an attorney.
The 6-foot-11 Huell and the Hurricanes open the season on Nov. 11, at home against Western Carolina.
