NEW YORK (AP) - St. John's coach Steve Lavin has rounded out his staff with the promotions of assistants Rico Hines and Tony Chiles and the hiring of former NBA guard Darrick Martin.
Lavin announced Friday that Hines and Chiles will move up on the staff while adding Martin, who played at UCLA when Lavin was an assistant there before embarking on 13-year NBA career.
The staff will have three members with NBA experience as Hines played with Golden State for five seasons and special assistant Gene Keady was with Toronto as an assistant for one season.
Martin replaces Mike Dunlap, who coached the Red Storm for most of last season as Lavin recovered from prostate cancer surgery. Dunlap was hired in June as the head coach of the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats.
