EL PASO, Texas (AP) -Tim Floyd has only been back in El Paso a few weeks, but it’s hard to tell. There is clutter on his new desk in an office overlooking Texas El-Paso’s new basketball practice facility.
Floyd is busy filling out his coaching staff and getting ready to lead the team on a bid for a second straight appearance in the NCAA tournament.
Floyd started his basketball career as an assistant to UTEP coach Don Haskins, before coaching at Idaho, New Orleans and Iowa State. He took over the Chicago Bulls in 1998 before stints with the NBA’s Hornets and then USC.
He left USC last year amid allegations of recruiting violations involving standout O.J. Mayo. Floyd has denied any wrongdoing.
Floyd says he plans to lead the Miners as long as he’s supported.
