CICERO, Ind. (AP) – A University of Indianapolis basketball player has drowned after officials say he fell into an Indiana reservoir without a lifejacket.
A dive team found the body of 22-year-old senior Dai-Jon Parker around 6 p.m. Thursday at the bottom of Morse Reservoir, north of Indianapolis. Crews searched for a little over two hours.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources confirmed Parker’s identity on Friday. The university issued a statement saying the campus community was mourning the tragedy.
Witnesses who were with Parker told DNR investigators that he was being pulled on an inner tube behind a boat and fell off after hitting a large wave. They said they didn’t see him resurface.
Parker spent three seasons at Vanderbilt before transferring to Indianapolis.
