INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -Jay Jacobs is the link between an entire state to the team it loves the most.
Jacobs is the radio analyst for West Virginia basketball games. His voice is piped into the coal mines of West Virginia so the workers there can keep up with their beloved Mountaineers.
West Virginia’s infatuation with the teams dates to the 1950s, when “Hot Rod” Hundley helped turn the program into a power and Jerry West took it to its last Final Four.
The Mountaineers are finally back to the Final Four after 51 years and their connection with the state’s blue-collar workers is stronger than ever.
When the Mountaineers play Duke on Saturday, Jacobs’ voice will most certainly be echoing off the walls of the mines.
