HOUSTON (AP) – The players at Virginia Commonwealth University and coach Shaka Smart insist nothing will change at the Final Four: It’s still just basketball.
After a day that welcomed them to the top of the sport, they still feel that way.
Players went through rapid-fire interview sessions, filmed video profiles in a room filled with fake smoke and wandered the cavernous halls of Reliant Stadium where they will play eighth-seeded Butler on Saturday.
Guard Joey Rodriguez says it has been crazy and fun: “Coach kind of warned us how crazy it would be. I just kinda shot a music video. That was nuts, but it’s been fun.”
Now, he’s ready to play the game.
