BOSTON (AP) -Al Skinner is out as Boston College basketball coach in what the school said was a mutual agreement.
Athletic director Gene DeFilippo issued a statement Tuesday confirming published reports that Skinner was leaving. The decision was made last Wednesday, but DeFilippo’s statement said that the announcement was kept secret for almost a week at Skinner’s request so he could interview for other jobs. Skinner interviewed for the vacancy at St. John’s.
Skinner just finished his 13th season guiding the Eagles. He was the winningest coach in school history, with a 247-165 record and seven NCAA tournament berths since 2001.
Skinner’s departure was first reported by The Boston Globe.
