SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) -Bob Huggins told his alma mater on the day he was hired he was back to win a national championship.
At West Virginia, that was quite a lofty goal.
The Mountaineers hadn’t advanced to the Final Four since 1959, when they were led by Jerry West. They’re back after a 73-66 victory over Kentucky in the East Regional final.
Huggins says he talked to his team about being special. Now they’re two wins away from being something more, national champions.
Huggins has the fans singing the school’s signature song, “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” The ones who made the trip to Syracuse belted out the song waiting for the team to board the bus. Now they’ll be singing it this week in Indianapolis.
