SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -Kansas State couldn’t overcome spotty shooting for long enough to complete a comeback against Butler in the West Regional final.
After rallying from 11 points down to take a brief lead, the Wildcats struggled to score down the stretch as Butler used a 9-0 run to pull ahead in the final minutes and win 63-56 Saturday to clinch a berth in the Final Four.
Kansas State tied it 54-all on a jumper by Denis Clemente with 3:06 left, but didn’t score again until Jacob Pullen’s meaningless jumper rolled in at the buzzer.
Clemente had just two points in the first half and Pullen didn’t score at all in the first 20 minutes. The Wildcats’ star guards helped lead the second-half rally, but Kansas State couldn’t sustain it and failed in its bid to reach the Final Four for the first time since 1964.
