SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Utah has fired basketball coach Jim Boylen, two days after the Utes ended a second straight losing season with a loss to San Diego State in the first round of the Mountain West Conference tournament.
Athletic director Chris Hill informed Boylen on Saturday. The Utes set a futility mark with only 15 first-half points.
The Utes lost eight of their last 11 games, and finished 13-18 after a season-ending 64-50 loss to San Diego State in the quarterfinals Thursday. Boylen was 69-60 in four seasons overall and 32-32 in conference play.
Utah will move to the more competitive Pacific 12 Conference next season.
