Former Arkansas star Corliss Williamson is taking over as the coach at Central Arkansas.
Williamson is leaving his job as coach at Arkansas Baptist, a junior college in Little Rock, to take over at Division I Central Arkansas, according to Charles Ripley, the athletic director at Arkansas Baptist. Central Arkansas would not confirm the hiring but did call a news conference Friday to introduce its new coach.
Ripley says Arkansas Baptist is “excited” for Williamson and that he expects the former Arkansas Razorback to “do very well” at Central Arkansas.
Williamson led Arkansas to the 1994 national championship as a player.
Central Arkansas fired coach Rand Chappell after the team went 9-21 this season.
